Personality: Quick-witted, views himself as something of a southern gentleman.
He is strongly devoted to his twin brother, Izaak "Cameron" Adamczak,
who now poses as his great-grandson and who he affectionately calls "old
man." He worries that Izaak spends too much of his time taking care
of him and what will become of his brother after he's gone.
History:
Born in 1897 in the Austria-Hungarian Empire, Jakub and his
brothers Abraham and Izaak were Hungarian on their father's side and
Polish-Czechoslovakian on their mother's side. Polish became their first
language as they were raised in a household that primarily followed Polish
customs.
The family immigrated to the United States when he was
seven, settling on a family farm in the small city of Charlotte, North
Carolina. His father worked in a cotton mill. Since the boys were deemed old
enough to care for themselves, his mother took on work as a maid in the main
house at a tobacco plantation. As they quickly learned English, the boys picked
up a decidedly southern drawl with a strong hint of their Polish accent.
While tending the family farm and attending school, the boys
picked up odd jobs to help support the family, but all three were drafted into
the Great War in Europe. All three sons were fortunate to return relatively
unscathed, although the gore and death he encountered on the battlefield led
Jakub on the path to a very long career as a coroner in the rapidly
growing city of Charlotte upon his return to the States.
He became aware of Izaak's immortality fairly soon after
their return from the war -- Izaak could never keep a secret from him, he
didn't seem to age, and the woman who began to hang around didn't really
seem his type. Jakub devised a plan to provide cover for Izaak to pose as
a new family member every so often and he would take on a role as an older
relative. Jakub went on to have a family of his own, with children,
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Now, at 105, Jakub has taken on the role
of great-grandfather to his twin brother.
