Amara was born to a fairly prominent Greek family over 3500 years ago in the Thessaly region of Ancient Greece. Due to her family's wealth, she had a fairly pleasant and easy life for many years. She was doted on by her two elder brothers and father. They taught her about self defense and spent many a day out hunting and having fun, much to her mothers dismay. This quiet happy existence came to an end one day when Amara stepped into a fight between one of her brothers and another young man who had accused him of stealing something. She and her brother were both killed by a sword through the gut Amara awoke soon after and saw a strange man standing over her. His name was Eurus, and he became her new teacher. They spent several hundred years together, and he taught her everything he knew. Eventually they became lovers, but when another Immortal tried to use Amara against Eurus they parted ways for a while each needing to find themselves alone.

It was during that time that Amara took on her first student...

She found Cassandra, wandering alone in the desert somewhere in the (present day) Middle East sometime around 1000-950 BCE. The woman was frightened, lost, and almost a bit delusional when the Greek found her suffering mentally both from exposure and recent cruel treatment. Cassandra was a little slow to trust her at first, but eventually overcame that and the two became quite close, sharing a strange bond that was almost empathic in nature. The witch told of her time held captive by the Four Horsemen and the burning shame and hatred in her eyes was more than enough to convince Amara that she would not rest until she had seen justice done. She and Cassandra spent a great deal of time together and are close to this day.

After parting ways with her student she drifted from place to place along the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas taking on a few students and performing a wide variety of jobs. She was a Priestess of Athena for a time, and traveled to the fledgling Roman Empire to teach the ways of the Goddess - whom the locals referred to as Minerva. While at the temple she briefly made the acquaintance of a pre-immortal named Varus Antony - a man she would meet again over 2000 years later. After some time Amara set about and traveled the world, occasionally hooking up with her teacher and some of her students.

She and Cassandra met again in 1850 when Eurus, Amara's teacher was killed. Amara, under the name of Angelica D'Simonds, was mourning deeply and her student, sensing this, came to her side to comfort her and in time aided her in tracking down the Roman that had killed him. Amara took his head and his sword - keeping it as a trophy of sorts.

Life has been quiet for Amara since then, she withdrew into herself for a time and left the Game for the most part. Almost 20 years ago she took on the task of raising an old friend's son. Marty is very important to her and she would die for him if need be. When the Superflu hit Amara feared the worse, that her son would die like the rest, but fate smiled upon her however for she found him alive, shaken but healthy.

They traveled alone for a time, before meeting up with Stu Redman's small band of travelers. Amara was one of three immortals in the group and she, Kyra and Taya, agreed that it would be best to keep their secret for as long as possible not knowing how the mortals might react. Fate this time was not on her side as not one but two madmen attacked their small camp (apparently on the behest of the Dark Man). Kyra was 'killed' and their secret was exposed. Marty was injured and Amara had to fight and kill the second man - who happened to be an immortal. Since she took the Quickening the Ancient Greek has noticed that she has become more restless again and argumentative - slipping back into her harsher tendencies.

There were more run ins along the way - one with a group of men who reminded her of the horsemen almost - keeping a group of women they referred to as 'The Zoo.' She died once during the battle, but it was worth it, and they managed to help most of the women free themselves. The other with a man who called himself Dan that almost ended in tragedy, but they managed to escape that with only minor injuries.

Just before their arrival in Boulder Duncan MacLeod joined the group and, during the course of some polite chit-chat he let slip that he was still friends with Methos, one of the Horsemen - the one that had been cruelest to Cassandra. If the eldest of their kind had managed to pull the wool over MacLeod's eye's Amara knows that Boulder could be in danger if he were to show up and, in the back of her mind, she is preparing herself for the possible confrontation while still trying to adjust to the new world as a whole.
